According to legend, Dr. Albert Hofmann, a research chemist at the Sandoz pharmaceutical company, fell from his bicycle in April 1943 on his way home through the streets of Basel, Switzerland, after accidently dosing himself with LSD at the laboratory. The story presented another example of enlightenment as trickster. The Business Intelligence firm La Merie S.L. conducted an analysis of the R&D pipeline of human growth hormone (hGH, somatropin). Is there a place for LSD in medicine today? – Cycling home from the Sandoz Pharmaceutical Laboratories in 1943, the Swiss biochemist Albert Hofmann found himself on the trip of his life… At the age of 102, famed Swiss scientist Dr. Albert Hoffman has passed away. In 1938, Dr. Hoffman was studying fungi in the laboratories of Sandoz Pharmaceuticals and discovered the chemical agent Lysergic Acid Diethylamide-25. During a later experiment on April 16, 1943, some of this substance, abbreviated to LSD, seeped onto his fingertips. While working with the drug in the Sandoz pharmaceutical laboratory a few years after first producing it, Mr Hofmann ingested some of the drug through his fingertips. Albert Hofmann has died at age 102. He was the Swiss chemist who first synthesized Lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD) at Sandoz Laboratories in Basel back in 1938. Five years later he accidently dosed himself, which resulted in the first ever Acid Trip. Watson Laboratories and Sandoz have both filed applications with the FDA to produce generic versions of Bayer’s Yasmin contraceptive product. The only problem is that the patent on the drug hasn’t expired yet. Bayer confirmed that Bayer Schering Pharma AG and Bayer HealthCare Pharmaceuticals Inc. filed a patent infringement lawsuit in U.S. Federal Court in the Southern District of New York (New York) against Watson Pharmaceuticals, Inc., Watson Laboratories, Inc. and Sandoz, Inc.
